Anthony Fontanelle asked:
Japanese car manufacturers, most prominently Toyota, has almost taken over of the US market. The car manufacturer is now poised to take the place of Ford Motor Company as the country’s largest manufacturer of cars. Helped by a loyal buyer base and the positive acceptance of the American public of the Toyota Prius, the company has increased its sales not only in its Toyota division but also in its luxury division Lexus. Both divisions have just posted their sales figures for last month and both show an increase in the number of units sold.
The Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. has improved its sales by 5.1 percent which better than January of last year. Last month’s sales of 175,850 units marks their best ever January sales performance.
The Toyota division posted their record breaking January sales 153,732 which translate to a 4.7 percent increase over last year’s number of units sold. The luxury division of Toyota, which is Lexus also boasts of strong numbers, is also having their best ever January with 22,118 vehicles sold which is an increase of 8 percent compared to last year.
In the passenger car segment, the company’s best-seller is the Toyota Camry with 31,462 units sold against last year’s 27,440 and this is an increase of 10.1 percent while 2,081 units of its hybrid version were sold last month. While their hybrid electric car that has set a new trend in the car industry, the Toyota Prius also reported its best January sales of 8,299 units sold - an increase of 4.1 percent over last year’s sales figures.
Sales of light trucks are also up by 1.6 percent with another record-breaking January sales figure of 67,050 units. The strong sales number is led by the compact sport utility vehicle that is the Toyota RAV 4 which shows that the majority of the public is not turning their backs on the sports utility vehicle market. The Toyota RAV 4 has compiled a sales record of 11,925 units sold which gives it its best ever January in terms of sales. Other noteworthy vehicles that racked up strong number of units sold are the Toyota Highlander and its hybrid version which posted a combined sales figure of 10,322 units for the month of January and this is a 13.3 percent improvement over last year’s number of units sold.
The luxury division of Toyota also posted strong numbers for January of this year with 13,574 units sold which is an 18.7 percent improvement over last year’s sales figures for January. The Lexus ES 350 luxury sedan has the largest number of units sold at 5,320 units, but the all-new Lexus LS 460 bested its predecessor, the LS 430 with an increase in sales of a whooping 142.5 percent.
The upward surge of Toyota in terms of sales and seems to be taking the Japan-based company to the top of the leader board in the US market following decrease in the sales figures of both General Motors and Ford Motor Company. Toyota indeed looks all poised to wrestle the second spot from Ford and closing the gap between them and General Motors at a very exceptional rate. Their acceleration towards the top is very much akin to a Toyota Camry cruising at full speed and the driver’s mind not even considering applying the brakes.

Kaye Leery asked:
Japan’s Isuzu Motors Ltd. said Thursday that it is considering a set up in a joint venture to produce diesel engines with Toyota Motor Corp. as part of the tie-up which was announced by the two firms last year.
The truck maker and the world’s number one car maker have been discussing details of their alliance in development and production of diesel engines since they formed the tie-up.
An Isuzu spokesman said that putting up a joint production venture is one option which the two auto makers are looking at. However, they are also considering other options.
The latest comments were aired after Isuzu said last December that building a new diesel engine plant with Toyota was one option. The Isuzu spokesman said that the two auto makers may be open for the details of their alliance by the end of August.
The industry leader in the gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle market, Toyota, is seeking to improve its fuel-efficient and low-emission technologies by tying up with Isuzu, which is a major developer of diesel engines.
With the soaring prices of gas, diesel engines are attracting interest because they are almost 20 percent to 30 percent more fuel efficient than gasoline engines. About 50 percent of the vehicles sold in Europe are powered by diesel.
Aside from making diesel engines for its own vehicles, Isuzu also supplies such engines to U.S. auto titan General Motors Corp. (GM).
Last year, Toyota took a 5.9 percent stake in Isuzu. The team up came after Isuzu dissolved a capital tie-up with GM, which is trying to reorganize its business.
A Toyota spokesman said that the details have not been finalized on the diesel engine joint venture.
More information on Toyota

In May, TMS posted sales of 36,101 hybrid vehicles, a whopping 102 percent increase over last May. Toyota Division posted sales of 34,174 hybrids, an even more surprising 121 percent increase over the same period last year. Lexus Division posted sales of 1,927 hybrids.
TMS is the maker of quality Toyota oxygen sensors.
Information on Isuzu
Since its first truck was introduced in 1918, Isuzu has been a pioneer in the manufacture of vehicles and engines for industrial and commercial use. Today Isuzu is leading the world in the production of reliable medium-duty trucks and is famous around the world for its expertise in engineering, from diesel engines to pickups to SUVs.
IntelliChoice recognizes Isuzu’s whole 2006 lineup as among the best in their class for low costs.
Isuzu cars will be present in 6 auto shows for this year: Orange County, San Antonio International, Central California, South Florida International, Tampa Bay International, and at the Arizona International.

Seems I hit a triger point for people that were sensative to me stateing that Supra’s were sick!! I am aware that other cars are fast as I owned modified Mustangs and was beating and losing taces. All I was looking for was someone with better Supra knowledge then being anti-angry at the trurth to maybe explain why. Thanks…
Question Is, I see Supra’s running 10’s like all day. Slicks, forget about It. Even better times. Dyno pulls, sick. I just don’t see how an Inline six single, or twin BPU etc are making so much HP and getting Into the 8 second catagory. Also the RPM range In sick. Im just stunned at the performance.
