As soon as you see the 2009 Toyota Venza V6, you know what it is. So how come there are all these questions about whether it’s a crossover, a minivan in disguise, a tall wagon or a soft-riding SUV? Really, get over it. Toyota brought it to us, not aliens from another planet.

Mark Cooledge knows what it is. The 34-year-old insurance network manager from Texas is finding life a little tight in his Toyota Camry with his wife and two small children. He isn’t convinced his family needs a minivan, but he wants more space, more practicality. And maybe the Venza is it.

Cooledge is just the buyer Toyota was counting on when it designed the 2009 Toyota Venza, so we let him take the wheel with us so we could get past the labels and figure out what it does best.

The first Toyota car in the Indian car was the Toyota Qualis in 2000. Thereafter Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Innova were introduced in the Indian market. Another Reliable Toyota Truck Infiltrates the Global Market

Glady Reign asked:

Toyota has clearly succeeded in creating a mark in the global market as it has become the world’s largest automaker by revenue, production, sales and profit. Founded in 1937 by Kiichiro Toyoda, it’s tradition of building trucks dates back to the second World War when it manufactured simple every Toyota truck for the Japanese Imperial Army. Although the company previously focused on looms, being formerly known as Toyoda Automatic Loom, its new division eventually concentrated on the production of cars. Until now, Toyota is still involved in the textile industry and it still makes automatic looms that are now fully computerized as well as electric sewing machines that are available worldwide.

North America is a major automobile market for Toyota, particularly for the various models of the Toyota truck. In fact, the company has five major assembly plants in North America—at Huntsville, Alabama, Georgetown, Kentucky, Princeton, Indiana, San Antonio, Texas, and Buffalo, West Virginia. Meanwhile, a new one is being built in Blue Springs, Mississippi. These assembly plants are responsible for the production of the company’s vehicles that include every Toyota truck and sedan. Aside from the design and assembly of these comfortable and reliable vehicles, Toyota is also responsible for the development of components, like the Toyota truck parts, that feature innovative technologies. Some of these advanced characteristics that many drivers love, like the exceptionally durable Toyota Truck parts, are the first mass-produced hybrid gas-electric power system, a four-speed automatic transmission that is electronically controlled and has buttons for power and economy shifting, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the Advanced Parking Guidance System or, quite simply, automatic parking.

Like Toyota’s legendary Hilux, which has been tagged as “the indestructible car,” the 2007 Toyota Tundra is yet another example of a reliable Toyota truck. Having a towing capacity of over 10,000 lbs, a payload capacity of over 2000 lb, and a new 6-speed automatic transmission, the latest Tundra is offered in three engine types. All distinctly powerful in their engine capacity and power, the Toyota Tundra has become quite a success. It is now the best selling foreign full-size half-ton truck. As affirmed by Edmund.com, which awarded the Tundra as the Most Significant Vehicle of the Year and as the Most Wanted Full-size truck, there is just no going wrong with Toyota trucks.

Car of the Year: Toyota Camry

Mark Clarkson asked:

Not much of a surprise for me and perhaps for dozens of other car and vehicle aficionados. Sure, the Toyota Motor Corporation’s Toyota Camry has once again been recognized to be quite a remarkable car. This time, the recognition comes from the Motor Trend magazine and it gave the Toyota Camry the Car of the Year award for 2007.

It was sure not just any kind of competition. You see, the Toyota Camry was up against various car models. In fact, it had to go through close scrutiny and it had some other twenty seven other vehicle models to compete with. Yes, the Toyota Camry was up against other vehicles from various auto makers like General Motors, Nissan, and Honda.

According to Motor Trend, as part of its recognition for such a reliable and trusted vehicle, it has also honored all of the vehicles under the Toyota Camry name for the model year 2007. The list of Toyota Camry versions for 2007 even includes a hybrid vehicle that runs on gasoline and electricity. Angus MacKenzie is the editor in chief of Motor Trend and in a statement he delivered a couple of days back, he says, “Creating an innovative, engaging automobile with broad mainstream appeal is one of the toughest tasks facing any automaker. The Camry is the one car rival automakers all wish they could build.”

As on the Toyota Motor Corporation’s end, it was Mike Michels, the spokesperson for the company, who shared the company’s view: “It’s hard to quantify the effect on sales, but the Motor Trend award has a lot of corollary benefits. This really energizes the sales operation, the dealers, and for internal morale it’s a wonderful thing.” Toyota is also the creator of other vehicle models like the Toyota Corolla and also of vehicle products like Toyota T100 body parts.

So what was the Toyota Camry up against? Well, the list of contenders that the Toyota Camry had to deal with included the Saturn Aura which is a sedan from GM. Also, some vehicles from the Nissan line also competed against the Toyota Camry. These include the sedans Nissan Altima, Nissan Sentra, and the Infiniti G35.

Toyota Slashes Sales Plan as US Rate Stalls Its Momentum W

utut1 asked:

From:http://www.chinatopsupplier.com/

Tag:Toyota,slashes sales plan,US,SUV production

Earlier this month, Toyota announced sprawling manufacturing changes in the US and shutting down truck and SUV production, to respond to changing consumer demand.

Even with the lower number announced yesterday, Toyota Motor Corp plans to sell more vehicles than it did last year.

The pace of Toyota’s growth has been slowing. Under the new target it would inch up 1 percent this year, in contrast to a 6-percent climb in 2007, when it sold 9.37 million vehicles.

“The main reason for the change came from the faltering United States economy, and how rising oil prices and material costs are dampening the market there overall,” said Toyota spokeswoman Kayo Doi. The Japanese and west European markets were also sluggish, but Toyota’s solid sales in China, the Middle East and other markets were enough to maintain its worldwide growth, she said.

Toyota now plans to sell 2.44 million vehicles in the US, far less upbeat than the earlier plan to sell 2.64 million vehicles. It also slashed the sales plan for North America to 2.67 million vehicles from 2.84 million vehicles.

The new plan marks a nearly 7-percent drop from Toyota’s 2007 sales results of 2.62 million vehicles for the US, and a 5-percent slip from 2.82 million vehicles for North America. Prior to yesterday’s revision, Toyota had expected sales to grow in North America, including the US. The manufacturer of the Camry sedan, Corolla subcompact and Prius hybrid also lowered its production plan for this year to 9.5 million vehicles – unchanged from the previous year.

Earlier, it had set the manufacturing target at 9.95 million vehicles, which would have represented 5-percent growth from 2007. Tatsuo Yoshida, auto analyst with UBS Securities Japan in Tokyo, said woes over US auto sales weren’t likely to ease until next year.

“I think Toyota is giving rather cautious targets,” he said. “GM is in a worse state in reliance on trucks, but Toyota also has the same problem.”

Toyota, the world’s second-largest auto maker in annual vehicles sales after General Motors Corp, has averted the battering its American rivals have taken from soaring gas prices.

Toyota has long boasted a reputation for models with good mileage.

And its sales are still expected to be strong in emerging markets such as Russia, China and India, offsetting some of the losses in North America.

How the full-year tallies will add up is still uncertain as Detroit-based GM is also reporting growth in new markets. GM, the world’s top auto maker for 77 years straight, doesn’t release full-year sales forecasts.

Toyota outsold GM by 277,532 vehicles in the first six months of this year, selling 4.82 million vehicles worldwide. The call was close in 2007. GM eked out a win at 9.37 million to Toyota’s 9.366 million vehicles.

Also hurting Toyota is the sluggish Japanese auto market, where Toyota is the top-seller. Toyota said it now ex pects to sell 2.23 million vehicles in its domestic market this year, rather than the initial 2.27 million. It sold 2.26 million vehicles in Japan in 2007.

With auto sales ailing in the key North American market, speculation had been growing that Toyota would lower its sales targets. Toyota reviews such plans every half-year or so. But even Toyota is struggling to shift production from gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles and trucks to smaller models.

2 Millionth Pre-owned Toyota Sold

Anthony Fontanelle asked:

Japanese automaker Toyota has been breaking records for a while now. It is set to become the largest automaker in the world by next year. On its way to being the largest company of its kind, Toyota has broken sales records and has celebrated milestone after milestone. Recently, the Japanese automaker celebrated yet another milestone as they have sold 2 million pre-owned Toyota vehicles in the United States since 1996.

The buyer of the 2 millionth Toyota Certified Used Vehicle is Mr. Brian Kabat of Bellevue, Washington. The two millionth Toyota Certified Used Vehicle sold to Mr. Kabat was a 2004 Toyota Sienna. Initially, Mr. Kabat was apprehensive about buying the vehicle because of the added cost of its luxury features. His grandchildren though made it easy for him to decide as they expressed their liking for the Sienna’s features.

Toyota celebrates the sale of the 2,000,000th used vehicle by reimbursing Mr. Kabat the $36,648 that he paid for the vehicle. Aside from that, Toyota will also be donating the same amount to Bellevue’s Youth Eastside Service (or YES) agency. The Japanese automaker has also earmarked $5,000 as donation to Bellevue’s Newport High School Band. All these will be handed out in a ceremony that will be held at the Bellevue dealership where the 2,000,000th used Toyota was sold earlier this year to Mr. Kabat.

Handing out the checks will be Norm Olson, the sales operation manager of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles. The YES agency is the selected charity by Bellevue dealership principal Bruce Broadus. The said organization aims to help kids and families coping with problems such as drug abuse and domestic violence. YES executive director Patti Skelton-McGougan will receive the check from Mr. Olson. For the Newport High Scholl Band, the school’s principal, Patty Siegwarth, along with band directors Matt Eisenhauaer and Ed George, will receive the donation.

“This is a landmark event,” said Olson. “No other manufacturer of a single line make has reached this sales milestone. Toyota was the first manufacturer to stipulate a vehicle history report as a part of its extensive certified used program, which includes a seven-year, 100,000 mile limited power-train warranty, roadside assistance and a 160-point inspection procedure.” Toyota’s reputation for being the manufacturer of reliable automobiles and auto parts as durable as EBC brake rotors is one of the key factors why the automaker has sold millions of used cars.

This year, more consumers are buying certified used cars from the Japanese automaker. For the first nine months of the year, sale of used cars for Toyota in the United States has increased by 5.5 percent. The automaker has sold 207,923 certified used vehicles from January to September this year.

“We have always had great experiences with Toyotas,” Mr. Kabat said. “The dealer’s commitment to service always brought us back,” he added. That goes to show that Toyota is not only depending on the reliability of their cars to attract car buyers but also makes an effort to make customers feel comfortable while dealing with them. Other perks awarded to Mr. Kabat includes a Toyota Certified Platinum service agreement, a $500 American Express gas card and a three year Toyota Car Care program.

Toyota Pulled Out Its Account in Saatchi

Rain Stockton asked:

Toyota the producer of Toyota Tacoma parts has pulled out its £50m UK advertising business from Saatchi & Saatchi and transfers it to CHI & Partners. The Japanese automaker is Saatchi’s second-biggest global account next to Procter & Gamble with $2.5bn advertising expense per year with UK as its only biggest European market.

It was already expected that CHI which has sold 49.9 percent of its stake to WPP earlier this year will be given the majority of the UK business. CHI has been working out to get the Toyota account since 2004 when it was appointed to handle the launching of the Aygo model across Europe. And since then the agency has been given pan-European briefs for the Corolla and the Yaris.

It is also CHI that handles the promotion of Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus across Europe. However for this year the only UK project that it has won was Toyota’s tactical advertising business.

The news of Toyota’s transfer of its ad account came at the time when Saatchi is struggling find a new UK chief executive that could replace Lee Daley, who left Saatchi to join the Manchester United as commercial director last March. According to source familiar with the issue, Saatchi’s EMEA, Asia, and Latin America Chief Executive Jim O’Mahony who has been heading the search for Daley’s replacement could now be given the responsibility for the UK agency in addition to his other duties.

The decision of Toyota to move the majority of its UK account out of Saatchi follows the changes in the company’s senior team starting last year. Toyota’s former European marketing director Jon Williams has moved to Toyota GB as commercial director earlier this year in replacement of Paul Philpott who also left to join Kia UK as managing director. Similarly, Toyota GB’s long-serving managing director Graham Smith has also left to take on a new role in Toyota Europe last year.

A source close to WPP said that the company’s chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell has been keeping track of Toyota’s business for a couple of years now and the presence of CHI in the Japanese automaker’s roster was one of the primary reasons why he bought the stake in the agency.

But industry experts think that the Toyota news will not sit well with its rival automaker Ford that happens to be one of WPP’s biggest clients. Publicist-owned ZenithOptimedia is handling Toyota’s media planning and buying.

CHI founding partner Johnny Hornby refutes reports claiming that the agency has won the UK account and instead stated that the agency will take a more prominent role in Europe and also possibly in the US. He added, “As we understand it, it’s business as usual in the UK and we haven’t won the business in Europe or America, as much as we¹d love to one day.”

Toyota GB Marketing Director Mark Hall also said that they are still working with both Saatchi and CHI—at the moment there would be no changes.

Ford Seeks Toyota’s Ideas

Jenny Mclane asked:

Ford’s chief executive, Alan R. Mulally, and Mark Fields, head of Ford’s operations for the Americas, have flown to Tokyo to attend a courtesy call with Fujio Cho, the chairman of Toyota, and other top executives and senior officers of the automaker. According to experts, the courtesy call last Tuesday is resorted to by Ford to alleviate its ailing condition in the automotive realm.

Last year Bill Ford Jr., then Ford’s chief executive, sounded more competitive when he said, “My goal is to fight Toyota and everybody else and come out on top,” Mr. Ford told Time magazine, adding: “I’m not ceding anything to Toyota. They’re an excellent company, and they’re a terrific competitor, but I look forward to taking them on.” However, this time Ford is singing a new tune to secure fresh ideas from Toyota, which is poised to become the largest automaker around the world.

Japanese media reported that the talk between the two auto giants was focused on the development of environmental-friendly technology that will be integrated in sophisticated car parts Ford like the hybrid-electric and hydrogen fuel systems. In addition, Ford is also reported to be seeking ideas from Toyota regarding improving manufacturing efficiency. The latter is famed for manufacturing high-quality and reliable Toyota car parts.

Mulally plays an important part in building Ford’s business relationship with Toyota. He is a student of the Toyota Production System, which puts emphasis on waste elimination and assembly line improvement. He used a form of it on assembly lines at the Boeing Company, where he ran the commercial airplanes division before joining Ford in September.

The recently conducted meeting follows the talks held last summer with General Motors, Renault of France and Nissan of Japan. General Motors is currently the biggest automaker. It is famed in the manufacture of cutting edge GMC auto parts to be used in its lineup.

Ford and Toyota’s bond has been long established. In the 1950s Ford allowed the managers from Toyota to study the operations at its giant Rouge complex in Dearborn, Michigan. It has helped developed Toyota Production System. In the 1980s, Ford has also helped Toyota to open its first plant in the United States. Nowadays, the situation is on the exact opposite, it is now Ford that seeks Toyota’s assistance.

Chester Dawson, author of “Lexus: the Relentless Pursuit, said, “If it forges a relationship with Ford, Toyota is probably hoping it will be seen as a good-will move. Toyota is wary of inciting trade friction.” However, James P. Womack, a co-author of “The Machine That Changed The World,” which examined Japanese automakers’ American plants, said, “Toyota has nothing to gain, either politically or in the market, by letting Ford fail fast.”
